About NYCOM
The National Youth Council of Malawi is a Statutory Corporation of the Republic of Malawi established through an Act of Parliament, The National Youth Council of Malawi Act No. 22 of 1996
Our Mission
The National Youth Council exists to empower young people to participate effectively in the development and governance of their communities and societies by encouraging, promoting, and coordinating youth development
Our Mandate
o Realizing
the need for proper coordination of youth programmes, which has been
lacking in the country's development plans, the policy recognizes the
important role of a National Youth Council.
o The
National Youth Council of Malawi was set up after the government
realized that there was need for proper coordination of youth
programmes, which had been lacking in the country’s development plans. Thus, the
NYC, as the key institution that would ensure the effective
implementation, coordination, and evaluation of various programmes
affecting the youth and, thus instill a national pride in them.
o The
Council is autonomous, independent, and non-partisan statutory
corporation whose main mandate is to promote youth participation to
allow youth realize their full potential in all endeavors, mobilize
resources and initiate non-profit making projects
Priority Areas
Priority areas for action by the council are:
§ Youth participation
§ Youth economic empowerment
through promotion of education, training and youth livelihoods skills.
§ Sexual and reproductive health
§ Monitoring and Evaluation
